Programme Overview

Bordering Giant Panda National Park and the UNESCO World Heritage landscapes of Mount Siguniang, Xiaojin County is one of western China's most remarkable biodiversity and cultural regions.

This programme explores how nature, community and creativity can inspire sustainable innovation. Through hands-on experiences with local growers, rangers, designers and Gyalrong Tibetan communities, students follow the journey of a rose from field to product, while discovering the impact of design thinking.

Arrival in Xiaojin: Mountains & Rose Communities
Travel through the landscapes of western Sichuan, meet your mentors, and explore the history of Xiaojin's rose-growing communities.
Day 2 Xiaojin
Forest Rangers & Biodiversity
Hike through Maoshuigou Forest with a local forest ranger to explore biodiversity and conservation, then visit the village museum to discover how rose cultivation has shaped the community's development.
Day 3 Xiaojin
From Rose Fields to Product
Harvest roses alongside local flower growers at sunrise, then follow the journey from field to product while exploring design thinking and sustainable product development. Experience Gyalrong Tibetan clothing, prepare traditional local dishes with community members.

Design Studio & Community Showcase
Transform your field research into your own ecological product concept. Reflect on your learning journey and depart Xiaojin.
